Looking for answers to life's questions

So I lied. I was only going to do the one post this month. I just can’t hold it in any longer. It was probably one of the best Thanksgivings I’ve ever had.

I was asked to model the apron. It really looks better on the ironing board.

No one noticed all the fancy placemats or decorations I had scattered around. They were invisible among the hugs and laughter of family coming together after a long absence. The whole day was a rush and a blur of food being brought in and prepared by different cooks each in turn. I had my part under control…well maybe not so much. My oven does not cook evenly so the turkey was done more on one side than the other but it had a lovely taste.

Dining and kitchen table pushed together and had an informal gathering.

Board games were played before and after dinner. Some Zen Tangle and adult coloring books of intricate detail were brought out after. My daughter made sure everyone had something to do. My son copied and shared photos for some family members and the pots and pans were washed as used so after dinner, clean up was quick with many hands making the work light. With my family, my sister’s family, and my niece’s family here, all blended well and no one left hungry. There were few leftovers.

We did turn the couch around to face the others and 3 of us had the most comfortable seat.

There was no formality here and almost no order. It was just pure fun. My new home has been christened with love and joy. It doesn’t get any better. How was your Thanksgiving?

On that note, welcome to the Hanukkah and Christmas season. Are you going to be ready in time for the next holiday?

From my heart to yours,
Marlene Herself

    • Thank you. I hope your days are going as well also. I was grateful for no meltdowns. Especially my own. 🙂 It’s been a good 10 years since I’ve had a crowd for the holiday. Wasn’t sure I was still up to it. 🙂

  8. This post shows what a REAL Thanksgiving is all about. Family eating and playing together. I’m so happy for you! And you were right to share it.

    • Thanks so much, Barb. It was a little like inviting the psych ward over and plotting to keep them all calm and well fed. But that’s what families are. :)) Hope you had a good day as well. I’m going to catch up in January. Giant hugs to you and Ken. Keeping you in my heart.

  12. Marlene!!! I’m so happy to see you posing in your apron, smiling and looking content. That photo says more about the day than anything else: you were in your element.

It sounds like a wonderful gathering of family, with everyone pitching in.

I’m so glad you shared your special day with us. xox

    • My daughter was amazed at how relaxed I was. It set the tone for everyone to follow. I’ve let go of needing to control everything and the outcome. Funny how that worked out. 🙂 How was your day? Or did I ask. My mind is on a short break while I try to figure out how to join the binding at the end of the quilt. Have to look each time I do it. 😦

  13. Sounds like you had a perfectly perfect day, Marlene. Ours was not formal either, but good food was shared by all, complete with grandkiddos running around and wanting candy instead of pie. Go figure! Happy beginning of the holidays to you, my friend.

What a houseful, it must of felt like heaven. I can only imagine that that gathering would not have worked out as well in the apartment. I’m so happy for you that you finally got to celebrate a holiday in your new home in exactly the way you wanted to.

    I love the apron! 🙂

    • Thanks, Lois. It was fun and crazy. It would not have worked in the apartment which makes me happier that I found the manufactured home.In spite of it’s drawbacks I’m happy to have room to host a crowd. I’m no great cook but I love to feed people. It was a fun apron to make. I like aprons when I cook and I have so many to still make. Have a wonderful week.

  23. What a wonderful Thanksgiving – very special – and I love your apron! Hope Christmas and the New Year celebrations are just as joyful for you (I’ll be thinking of you as I sweat it out in the summer heat!). All the best to you and your family Marlene.

    • Thank you so much for stopping by, Clare. Christmas will be wonderful too as I choose it to be. I will have both of my children here, my sister, her ex-partner and their 16 yr old daughter. Friends are visiting on Wed for cookies and snacks, it’s not hot here and life is all good. I’ve done Christmas in the southern hemisphere. Wasn’t fond of it. Not fond of heat any time of year. 🙂 Have a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest New Year ever.
