I woke up this morning to a challenge. For some the challenge was met quickly. For me, it took the best part of the day. I needed a photo, it was dark so I waited for daylight.

Celie at The Kitchens Garden challenged all of us who follow her blog to post photos of where were write. She has a lot of people following her blog and they are called the fellowship. It’s almost like a family. They care about each other and we are entertained daily by a myriad of creatures with personality galore.

I find it fascinating the wide variety of people drawn to her blog about a tiny woman from New Zealand farming in the Midwest US. She writes wonderfully as well.

I’d like to be a better writer and maybe one day it will happen, but it has to happen from here.

I don’t do a desk anymore. The heat that I can turn on in the back of this recliner is pure decadence. The old back doesn’t care for straight backed chairs anymore. Now if I could get this recliner to fit under the sewing machine, there would be so much more done in there too. I’ve done a little writing in my bed but I didn’t make it today. There hasn’t been time. It’s been a day full of surprise and changes in plan.

    I am fascinated at the amount of followers Celi has also. I’m around 900 or so and that seems huge to me. I like your chair and your back throw. You are so wonderfully talented.

      Thanks Linda. It was hard to get even a short post written today. Her blogs are fun to read and I look forward to them every day. And she doesn’t even read mine.     A heated recliner! Deep envy! That would be such a comfort for a sore back. For sewing, could you make a cushion with a pocket on the front for a heat pad or hot water bottle, and put that on the chair behind you? Or maybe I can make on for you…?

      I tend not to lean back in my sewing chair. I get my nose right under the needle. One day I might sew right through it. I sew pretty much by braille. We’ve tried to magnify it but that gets awkward with big projects. But my seat is soft in there as I use an office chair with lots of padding. Can’t sit there very long though. I do love the recliner which I never recline. I just like the heat in the back to ease the discomfort. Thank you for the offer of a chair pad though. I love your cozy corner.

    Now that looks like a comfy corner. I have a room all to myself for writing. Well, except for the dog Sam….oh, and the two cats…..and must not forget the husband wanders in now and then. lol ❤

    There is nothing better than a comfy recliner. I miss mine, lost it years ago. Nowadays a recliner is just too hard to get out of because they are so low but I may give in and build a platform under one or maybe go the route of those lift chairs. Where do I write? It depends on the season. In the winter I write in bed because I can bundle up in there.

    Hi Marlene! Lucky you to have a heated recliner! I didn’t know there was such a thing! I love your writing because you share meaningful things about your life with those of us who read your blog. 😊
    My writing happens mostly upstairs in the “office”. I sit at the desk by the window and can see the forest behind us. I do get distracted when deer and coyotes come through! One time I saw a fox! So now I have some binoculars right there! 😉

      That makes me laugh.Binoculars and writing. 🙂 I would get distracted too. I just have the neighbors to watch but this window by my chair is where I watch the sunrise. It’s lovely there. I have heated seats in my car too. Lazy boy made these with a massager built in but I don’t use that. My daughter does when she comes. I love the heat and use it often. Thanks for the compliment. It’s appreciated.

      I can relate to being distracted by what’s out the window. My employer allows me to work at home two days a week, and my office is set up in front of a big window overlooking my rural property. Black tailed deer come through, and chipmunks, and recently vultures have been perching in the trees – so neat. Then I made it worse for myself and installed a bird feeder out there too. Now I have to keep my camera at my work desk, because otherwise I spend too much time running around the house looking for it and then the sight is gone when I get back. 🙂

    That looks like a cozy corner, Marlene. My car has seat warmers so I know exactly what you mean. It’s heaven for the lower back.

    We have a room that we refer to as “the home office” or “the den”. The fours of us used to work in here, before my oldest left for college. I take care of my work related email and calls in here and I also write.

    When I was recovering from surgery and needed to keep my foot elevated, I worked from the couch/ottoman, but my laptop would heat up. It also required a cord draped half way across the living room, so it’s good to be back in “the den”, a term I inherited from my dad.

    I write at the dining table most often these days since I lost the free use of my art room. You have a cosy chair that I might find tempting to stay in! 🙂 Luckily for us these days laptops and tablets allow us so much more freedom about where we work.

    Did you make the throw rug over the back of your chair Marlene – it looks as if it is rich in texture! 🙂

      Thank you, Pauline. I did make the quilt. It’s called ragtime and it was my very first one back in 2001. It’s made of 2 layers of good flannel. It’s my favorite and filled with (my) colors. Even this chair gets tiresome to sit in for long. I’m like a jumping jack. I can only sit a while and then move awhile. I just can’t do desk chairs. Do you see yourself getting your art room back anytime soon?

        It’s a lovely first quilt Marlene 🙂 No art room for me for a while, not until at least September and maybe the end of the year. It’s for a good cause though so I don’t really mind – just now and again when I want to paint and can’t…… You know what it’s like.

        Yes, I do. My sewing room is directly across from T.S. room. I’m up at 5 am and not about to go in there and start rattling around. He is a late riser. By then my day is on it’s way in other directions. We have no timeline here.

    I’m going to save the fact that there is such a thing as a heated back vibrating recliner for when I want to get in the good books with the G.O., my husband. He would love such a thing… if he could prise me out of it. I love your corner, that you made it so you can do things you enjoy.

      They are made by Lazy Boy and almost comfortable. I had no idea either when we went looking for something less painful to sit in. 🙂 When you find them you have to get 2. Thanks for stopping by.

    How wonderfully comfortable where you write from. You should have a special table made to fit your sewing machine at your lovely recliner. Makes my desk all very boring and ordinary now looking at your space.

      Thank you so much. It’s bad enough I have books, magazines and needlework all pushed around either side of the chair, to bring the machine and all that entails would keep me stuck in the chair forever. I have to move sometime. :)) It is a nice little spot and I can see the sunrise from here and watch the cars go by. Thanks for stopping by.

    Your chair looks like “Mission Control”–it all happens there! I have a similar chair where I do hand sewing and read. But writing takes place at the breakfast bar–not sure why!

      You may have something there, Kerry. Mission Control may be on target. I think I write best in dark corners and I sit here without lights watching the sunrise or clouds roll in. Later in the day when I want to be mindless is when the hand sewing or book reading get done here. Thanks for stopping by.

    I think I’d fall asleep in that cozy chair, Marlene. Last winter I converted one of our guestrooms into my writing room. During the warmer months, I do enjoy writing outside on the patio.

      Thanks for stopping by Jill. I have never fallen asleep in the chair. I don’t sit still that long. My extra guest room is for sewing and one belongs to my son. This is the quiet spot early a.m. where I can focus before the world wakes up. If I go outside, I see work.:)

My son picked these out because what I had was killing his back and hips. So there are 2 of them. When my daughter comes to visit, she steals her brothers chair and turns on the heat.       🙂 I usually have my nose almost under the needle to see what I’m doing so no comfy recliner in there though I do have a nice padded rolling office chair. I have a window to look out and something to drink at hand. It is quite cozy and thank you for stopping by.

    That does look like a comfortable place to work. I have a writing app on my Kindle that I use to write my poetry and short stories as I lay in the bed. I email them to myself and finish it up on the desktop. My laptop died and no dollars to buy a new one or update the old one to windows 10.

I know what you mean, I can’t seem to sit anymore unless I can put my feet up…. well at least….. I prefer it that way. Our entire home set up is for feet propping up! Haha I would never dare take a picture of where I write. In order to post need to use my laptop that my husband has plugged into his desk. It is in his so-called man room (I’d hardly call it a cave) and he really hates me messing with his things to tidy up in there so I leave it be. 😕Everything else I type, scan the internet, etc, I do from my smartphone. I say smartphone but many times this phone is way smarter than I am cause I need all the help I can get! 😊 There is very little I do anymore on an actual computer! I will check or her blog too. Thanks for the info. I always like to find interesting people to meet.

    ….. and the bad part about doing this from my phone is that the buttons are fairly close together and I’m always accidentally unfollowing people or sending posts before I’m finished!

    Holy Hanna ! That apparatus behind the shake-n-bake chair looks like the aliens from ‘1953’s War of The Worlds’. Gah! Did you ever see it? LOL

    I tend to write all over the place but often in front of the tele. Jim will be watching something, I have pay attention and half write. Now you know why I make so many spelling errors. I fancy myself a multi-tasker but perhaps I’m not as good at it as I’d like to be.

      It’s my light and magnifier with a clip arm that holds patterns while I do needlework. The light is natural daylight which is good for hand sewing. It does have an alien personality as it will reach out and grab you every once in a while. The tele is in front of me and it’s on right now. My sister is sitting next to me coloring and we are watching house hunters international. 🙂 That’s how I travel these days.

      Thank you, Lisa. I’ve been pretty flighty myself these days. Working hard to get “grounded”. Where will my focus be. I think the Universe has handed me many large hints so I’ll be going in more the writing direction. I’m not a fiction writer. Life is much more interesting.         Ah good, there’s a reason for everything. Your writing is now so fab I absolutely love to hear you say that’s going to be a focus for you. Even better if it’s life & memoir writing.         Sounds like a place I need to be. I call mine creative non-fiction. My memory is fragmented by PTSD in the early years. You ask any 2 people who were at an event and they will see it differently. So it’s all about perspective. I will experience and event differently than you but it’s how my mind takes it in and remembers it. I can’t swear to God it happened that way but in my mind, it did. Hence, creative non-fiction. 🙂

    Hi Marlene -lovely post thanks. I also sit in a recliner chair to write – mine is a lovely comfy brown leather one and it is in the corner of what we call our “cosy room” – a small room of the living area that we can shut off and keep warm in Winter. My evenings are my reading and writing time.

Your chair looks so comfy, and a heated back? How wonderful is that! I’ve done writing in bed a few times, but I get carried away and then get awful back ache. I like the peace and quite of my summerhouse but I do also write from the sofa perching my laptop on my, well, lap! That’s what they’re for, right? I hope life is treating you well.     The scene of your writing spot just brought me a little closer to you again. I love that I recognize it and know what’s out the window, and know that part of your home.
