Definitely Autumn
Happy Halloween Everyone. I’m not doing Halloween at all this year. Our decorations are all in storage as it looks like the house has sold and we are in the process of moving out. I don’t want to have as much leftover candy as last year. I’m still wearing it around my middle. The kids rarely come this far down the hill and the wind is wild out there. Halloween is another holiday that has fallen victim to Covid.

Since I’m short on time this Halloween, I’ll let my friend and fellow blogger, Crystal entertain and scare you with photos she took on her way home from visiting me. We don’t get to visit often enough. This place on the main road must have access to a warehouse of decorations because the do it up big for every holiday.

Congratuations on 10 years of blogging. That’s longer than I’ve ever stayed in one job!
Halloween isn’t a big thing in South Africa, it’s pretty much restricted itself to a few groups of small children who dress up and go around asking for sweets while it’s still light (under their parents’ supervision, of course). It definitely doesn’t compare to the sort of thing you guys do with your gardens – man, I love those skeletons!
I used to have an American friend who wore a necklace of plastic flashing pumpkins to the office on Halloween. She was a fancy dresser anyway, so we all just thought it was another fashion trend she’d brought over with her.

I have always thought Halloween is just for the kids but some people like to keep their kid alive for a very long time. Both my kids still love Halloween but this year was different for everyone. Not my favorite holiday since I didn’t grow up with it but I still indulge the younger children when they are around.
I always feel like each year might be my last but here I still am. We shall see how it goes. Thanks for the visit, Jill. Hope to see you here again soon too.

Thanks so much, Lou. The friends I’ve made here keep me plodding on. I was happy that Crystal picked up the slack for me this month. It’s been an exhausting race to the finish line. Thanks so much, Alys. I think I’ll go back one day soon and see how early we connected. The appraisal was for the full price so it looks like we are moving forward. It’s never sold till the check is in hand but we are continuing to press forward. I’ll drop your card in the mailbox tomorrow.

She really goes over the top with the decorations. Makes me wonder where she stores the coffin during the rest of the year.

They must have some kind of decoration business because every holiday looks like that. They are on a main road and people are always stopping to take photos. It’s quite the production. Have a great week, Amanda. I have to get packing again. I’ll visit soon.

Well done for those ten years! Decorating for Halloween isn’t really a thing here in Scotland so I usually put out my pumpkin and that’s all. This year we didn’t have any visitors, but that’s to be expected. Hopefully next year will be better in all the ways.

Happy bloganniversary. My estate does a Halloween trail in which some people decorate their houses. I had no visitors last year but this year two Mums with six children came by, I was ridiculously excited.

Thank you, Cathy. The wind was vicious this year but no rain. The kids all go by truck loads to the houses up top of the hill. I gained too much weight being hopeful that they would make it down here. Glad you got a few at least.

congrats on your ten, that’s a huge accomplishment. i love the neigbbor’s decor, but know how much time and energy that takes. my decor is much more low-key, a couple of pumpkins and black cats, and i’m happy.

Halloween isn’t a big thing here and generally people don’t bother much with decorations, but we did our bit: Doggo and friends allowed themselves to be dressed up in seasonal outfits and a bunch of us had coffee together in quite frankly stinking heat (sitting outside in 88°F…). Halloween in spring doesn’t have quite the same flavour as Halloween in autumn.🎃💀🧛♂️👻

I couldn’t do ANYTHING in 88 degrees F.. I bet Mr. Mouse won the best costume prize. I remember doing Christmas in Taiwan one year. Very unnatural for us northerners. I could let that holiday go but my kids still love it. This year, not so much. Lets hope life gets back to some specter of normal soon.

Congratulations on your 10th year blogging anniversary, Marlene! That’s a big achievement. My husband and I were into celebrating Halloween when our daughter was growing up, but not anymore. We’d rather just enjoy our time together without a big production. The changing season outside our windows is decoration enough. (Nature always wins out in that department.)

I’m in full agreement, Liz. We had big winds for the last two days carrying leaves everywhere. So much fun to watch. I was happy not to be giving out candy because I was always more hopeful than realistic about how many kids would make it this far down the hill. It’s my daughter’s favorite holiday but this year there is a sale pending sign in her window rather than a ghoul or ghost.

Halloween isn’t a “big thing” in New Zealand, but it starting to be in pockets of the community – however this year, the lockdown has put it into the “change of” – someone on the local f/b group set up a “drop off only by arrangement only” and a friend of mine said her Mums group from the local school set up to “drop off candy in letterboxes” – all contactless… However PM Jacinda Ardern said Auckland must NOT do it at all…just not safe with covid/lockdown.
Those photos of the other peoples’ decor, magic…lots of planning and then putting it all in place…

I’m so glad I’m not the one setting up or putting away all the decor. It’s been taking me forever to get my small amount of Christmas up and down. It won’t be doing either this year.
I’ll be surprised if they don’t cancel your Christmas too. A little over the top for me.

10 years! What an accomplishment! I always am amazed at how some people really get into Halloween and decorating. I have pumpkins outside and a straw witch that I always hang on my front door. And witch 🧙♀️ candles on the dining room table. That’s about it!
And now it’s already November. Congrats on selling the house! I look forward to hearing your next travel plans. 👏💚

Thanks so much, Pam. News is on the way. It’s hard to decorate outside here for any holiday. I mostly had mine on the porch or inside. This year, nada. All in storage. Let’s see if I make to to 11 years. Getting lazy in my old age. 🙂

Ten years – WOW! Way to go, Marlene. We don’t get trick-or-treaters, either (just one cutie this year), and I only put out mums and pumpkins. Those decorations are incredible. The best news is that you sold your house!!

Thanks so much, Jennie. I’ll get excited when we sign the closing papers and they give me the check. In the meantime, I’ll keep packing and hoping the sale goes through. I’m sure glad I’m not the one that has to put away all those decorations. They do the same thing for every holiday. I didn’t even do a pumpkin this year. Our neighbors blew down the street. The winds were fierce.

I’m down to a spooky table cloth and rubber pumpkin and I generally have to get way back in a closet to get them. I don’t think we’re as in to Halloween as they are in America but there’s a few houses like this here. We didn’t have any candy left over, thank goodness. We didn’t hand it out at the door, we left a giant bowl on our walk with a sign that said 2 please. I think most kids that I saw were courteous, so that was nice. When will you be in your new place then lovely ?! 💛💛💛xK

I like H’s photos of this place. It’s hard to show in pictures how big and creative and outstanding it is. I join the others in wondering where they store it all, and echo you in being grateful I don’t have to pack it all up and put it away. Yikes! Those are amazing Halloween decorations – upmarket and on a huge scale. Very impressive and festive indeed. With my son at uni we now bunker down inside the house for a meal … here in the UK likewise few out on the streets.

Bowl cozies are made from 100% cotton to set a bowl of anything you want hot in. They are intended to go in the microwave to heat up food and not burn your fingers getting the bowl out. I also use them to put a bowl of ice cream in to keep from freezing my hands or melting the ice cream as I hold it. I’ve made several dozen of them and gifted or sold them for fabric cost.
