My Wildest Dream

Have you had dreams for your life that you thought would be so wonderful to accomplish? Sometimes, they stay dreams because you just don’t believe they can become real. I had several of those dreams. I wanted to teach when I was very young and set up classrooms for my siblings and the neighbor children. Later in life, when books became available and my best friends, I thought that maybe I could share what I had learned from life by writing my own books. Since classes were rarely available, I tried to teach myself as I had with most things in my life.

Part of my how to write books

More of my how to write books

A few months ago, I was pushed way out of my comfort zone by a very sweet and long-time friend. We had not seen each other in almost 15 years but Sharyn has been a quiet reader of my blog for many years. Sharyn was teaching Feng Shui here in the Arizona White Mountains where she and her husband owned a couple of theaters and raised their children.  She’s an adorable, high energy, butterfly of a human.

One of Sharyn’s books on Feng Shui

A woman of many talents, Sharyn decided to collect stories from many women and some men sharing their wisdom from a long life. One day, Sharyn gave me a call asking me to write a story for a second anthology she was putting together. I laughed.  She sent me a copy of the first anthology so I could get a better feel for what she wanted from me. Again, I laughed and said I wasn’t qualified to be included with these well-educated and accomplished women. She called again to convince me that I was indeed proficient enough to do this and sent me the requirements.

Flowers from Sharyn

So, I wrote, and rewrote several times. I was then instructed to send my story to her editor for final review. Every day, I expected someone involved with the publishing of this book to say my story was not what they were looking for and thank you for trying.

Somehow, that didn’t happen. Sharyn let me know the final publication date of 11/11/22 was set. There was a link that day for the Kindle version of the book and I downloaded it and today the hard copy comes out on Amazon. I bought several copies to be gifted to the few who have supported my dream to write.

The first anthology.

I’ve had a hard time telling anyone about it. It didn’t seem like something that could be real for me. I write a blog post once in a while to a small group of wonderful followers. I’m not college educated with writing credits ANYWHERE. I just write because the need is in me to do so. Now, I can truthfully say out loud, I’m a writer. I have a published story?! Dreams do come true.

Out today with my little part in it.

It’s real

Have you ever had a wild dream come true for you?

    • Thanks so much, Diane. As soon as I catch my breath I’ll work at it some more. The last two month have been like a freight train ran over me. I’m so glad I did this even with all the fear. I might be able to think again after the new year. Thanks for the visit. Will try to send note soon. Sigh.

  14. Congratulations, Marlene. Well-deserved recognition for your special words of wisdom! This is a dream that many writers have. Sharon quite rightly recognised your ability to reach people with the words you choose. It is clear you don’t need the resource books on how to creatively write, anymore! So proud of you!

I’m looking forward to reading all the stories in the book. I really did think I had run out of daylight. You are right, it’s never too late. Thank you for stopping by.

  18. I can’t think of a better person for this to happen to. You are a Very Clever Girl, and I commend you! And yes, I’ve had a wild dream come true. I emigrated to Australia, all by myself, in the face of lots of doubt and opposition. And here I still am, nearly 20 years later. We can do it, we older girls. You can now put all those feelings of Imposter Syndrome away, and concentrate on producing more publishable content. We’ll be right here, waiting to hear what you have to tell us. xxx

  20. Marlene I am delighted beyond words. We have all loved reading what you write for ELEVEN Years and now I see your writing has a larger audience. I went to Amazon and read all the reviews and they are just wonderful. It sounds like your story fits perfectly in among them. I do not use Kindle, so I bought the paperback. There were only two available. I can hardly wait to read it and see your name and beautiful face in print. ❤ Congratulations on your dream coming true.

    • I’m still kind of blown away by it all. It doesn’t seem quite real at all. I hope they sell out because those three women worked so hard to put all of it together. I just wrote one little story in this bigger picture. I’m just delighted about the whole thing. I’ll try catching up here soon. On overwhelm again.

That is part of my dream of being published some day, that I would have an editor look over my work and help me make it better. You had this honest-to-goodness professional experience, and I am just thrilled for you. ❤

  23. I think, Marlene, that if you’d asked any of your readers here if you could write, you would have heard a resounding ‘yes’! I’m so happy for you and for your fellow authors. I’ll check Amazon to see if they’ve replenished their stock.

I’ve had many dreams come true, not always as I’d dreamed them, but still . . . I’m beyond grateful for them all, but mostly for my six-month trip to the UK and Norway in 2018 on a budget of $700 per month. Everyone thought I was crazy and that it wouldn’t turn out well, but it was amazing.

Anyway, congratulations; I’m looking forward to reading that book. And the next one . . . but no pressure! haha

    • I’ve been a bit distracted here this week. Linne. My daughter is here visiting and I’ve been wrapping up the book launch details. Thanksgiving is here and it’s my son’s birthday. I’m really shocked by all of this because it didn’t feel like a possibility for me. Now, I’m working on writing my memoir about how synchronistic my life has been. Everything has been in perfect order. Even the hard parts. I’m counting on next year being a little less hectic than this one, assuming I get one. I’m hoping all is well with you. Haven’t heard or seen much from you lately. Miss that. I’m catching my breath now that this essay has been published. Thanks for the encouraging words. Hugs.

  24. Oh my goodness!!! I am sooo excited for you, Marlene. You are a wonderful, wonderful writer, and you don’t need a college education to be good at something. You followed your love, your heart, and IT HAPPENED! As always, you inspire me. I need to dust off that way-too-long query letter and get it down to one page. We’re home this Thanksgiving (not traveling to see the kids and grandkids) for the first time in 15 years, so I CAN do this! Charles French thinks I should forego the children’s books and write my memoirs…😳. Well, enough about me, and again well deserved congratulations!

    • I absolutely agree with Dr. French. I’m not doing a query letter until I have enough in concrete writing to start with. You have a lot to share and teach to so many. I can see your book being so helpful to so many different kinds of people. Parents, teachers, students. Oh my goodness, you could touch a much larger portion of the world. I’m excited that you are even thinking about it. Please, please, please do that! If anyone has something to say, it’s you! Happy Thanksgiving.

  25. Cheers from a humble and loyal reader ! Cheers for your dreams coming true in a spectacular way! This is just awesome Marlene! Woop, I know a writer!.
Dreams are like a roadmap. Whether or not we reach the destination, the journey can fill your life with moments we shouldn’t miss, colour our days and inspire us. So glad you followed yours.
I’ve had many dreams come true. Even the failings of one was magical for a while. It’s more important to have them in life than to always achieve them I think. 💗xK

    • You are so right, Kelly. Dreams are a roadmap. I gave up dreaming for a long time thinking I had no time left for those dreams. Looks like I was wrong. Without dreams we start to stop taking in the breath of life. Dreams and desire for experience is what keeps us going. Now I’m going to do more writing. Thanks for the visit.

    • Thank you, Alys! I got my three copies too. Now my daughter says I have to write the rest of the story. 😉 The publisher or whoever put it all together, said she trolled my blog for a good photo of me. The three women who put this all together are the real stars but it was quite the challenge to do my little bit. Thank you for all your support. H is here for the holiday/BD surprise for TS. What a fun week. Till later.

  30. I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU, AND ABOUT THIS BOOK!! I just downloaded it on my Kindle. Can’t wait to read. I have found through teaching creative writing to adults that one doesn’t need a college degree, or a degree in writing or English lit to be a good writer. One needs a heart and an ability to open it up and let the blood flow. You do that in your blog posts, and that’s why they’re so good! I have no doubt that your story in this anthology is wonderful.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, Pam. I hope you enjoy the book. I absolutely loved the forward on this one. That surprised me.
